The Punjab government has announced a large-scale environmental initiative aimed at increasing forest cover and addressing climate change challenges across the province.
Under the upcoming “Plant for Punjab” campaign, authorities plan to plant 31 million saplings during 2026 as part of efforts to improve the environment, restore forests, and promote sustainable development.
The initiative includes the restoration of forests over approximately 7,000 acres in southern Punjab, with a reported allocation of Rs. 8 billion for various afforestation projects.
As part of the campaign, the government also plans to establish 350 urban mini forests and 200 public parks in different areas. Forest expansion projects will focus on regions including Murree, Kotli Sattian, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum.
To improve monitoring and conservation, authorities are introducing a Digital Forest Inventory System along with a dedicated protection force to safeguard plantation sites and forest resources.
Environmental experts highlight that increasing tree cover can help improve air quality, support wildlife, reduce the effects of climate change, and create healthier urban spaces.
The Punjab government says the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote environmental sustainability and build a greener future for the province.
