Punjab's She Threads Initiative Supports Rural Women Through Textile Training

The Punjab government has launched an expanded effort under the She Threads initiative with an allocation of Rs. 310 million to empower rural women through specialized textile industry training.

The program targets women aged 18 to 45 who have completed at least middle-level education. Participants receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 along with transport support during their training period.

Currently operating in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, and Faisalabad, the initiative offers 10 specialized textile courses designed to improve practical skills and increase employability.

Over the last two years, around 2,500 women have completed the training program, with hundreds successfully securing jobs in the textile sector.

Why It Matters

  • Promotes women’s economic empowerment
  • Creates employment and skill development opportunities
  • Strengthens Punjab’s textile workforce
  • Supports financial independence among rural women
  • Contributes to inclusive economic growth

The She Threads initiative reflects the growing importance of vocational education and workforce development in creating sustainable opportunities for women and strengthening Pakistan’s industrial sector.
