Rawalpindi Declares Flood Emergency Ahead of Monsoon Season

Authorities in Rawalpindi have announced a flood emergency from June 15 to September 15 as part of preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. The decision comes in response to forecasts indicating above-normal rainfall and an increased risk of urban flooding in vulnerable areas.

To strengthen emergency preparedness, a central flood monitoring control room will remain operational throughout the monsoon period, while emergency response teams are being placed on high alert. Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 personnel are also expected to conduct flood response exercises to improve coordination and readiness.

Officials have directed the cleaning of Leh Nullah and major drainage channels to help reduce the risk of water accumulation during heavy rainfall. Plans have also been made to establish relief camps and install emergency warning systems in flood-prone locations.

Why It Matters

  • Improved emergency preparedness
  • Faster flood response and rescue operations
  • Enhanced public safety during monsoon season
  • Better management of urban flooding risks
  • Strengthened disaster response coordination

Residents are encouraged to follow official weather advisories and safety instructions throughout the monsoon season.
