The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has reportedly uncovered a major corruption scandal involving alleged irregularities worth approximately Rs 1 billion in the Punjab government’s flagship “Suthra Punjab†sanitation project in Faisalabad.
According to details mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR), more than 10 officials and contractors have been booked over allegations of financial misconduct linked to digital sanitation monitoring operations.
The Suthra Punjab initiative was introduced by the Punjab government as an AI-based and technology-driven sanitation system designed to improve waste management across urban and rural areas. The system was intended to digitally track sanitation workers, vehicles, and operational performance to ensure transparency and efficiency.
However, investigators claim that digital records within the system were allegedly manipulated to process illegal or excess payments. The contractor, identified as M/s Care Consortium, which was responsible for waste management services in Faisalabad, is accused of receiving inflated payments through falsified entries in the digital portal.
The FIR further alleges that the contractor, in collaboration with certain staff members from the IT and operations wing of the Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC), caused significant financial loss to the national exchequer through these alleged irregular practices.
Authorities have initiated further investigation to determine the full extent of the alleged corruption and identify all individuals involved. Officials stated that strict legal action will be taken if the allegations are proven true.
The case has raised serious concerns regarding transparency in digital governance systems and the need for stronger oversight mechanisms in public sector projects.
