Pakistan and Uzbekistan Agree to Expand Digital Customs Cooperation

Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen bilateral customs cooperation by expanding digital integration, adopting AI-powered risk management, and enhancing real-time information sharing.

The understanding was reached during high-level discussions in Tashkent, where both sides explored ways to modernize customs operations, improve border security, and facilitate regional trade.

Expanding Digital Customs Connectivity

As part of the discussions, both countries agreed to extend their existing digital customs connectivity to include transit trade data.

The initiative is expected to streamline customs procedures, improve transparency, reduce processing times, and strengthen coordination between customs authorities.

Technology at the Center of Customs Modernization

Officials discussed the adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics, to improve customs risk assessment and intelligence-led enforcement.

These technologies can help customs authorities identify potential risks more effectively while facilitating legitimate trade through faster and more efficient clearance processes.

Boosting Regional Trade and Security

The enhanced cooperation is intended to strengthen border security, combat illicit cross-border activities, and promote safer and more efficient regional trade.

Officials also emphasized the importance of stronger public-private partnerships to support modernization efforts and improve the overall customs ecosystem.

Technical teams from both countries are expected to prepare detailed protocols for implementing the agreed areas of cooperation.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The agreement reflects the growing economic and strategic partnership between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, with both countries seeking to improve regional connectivity through digital transformation and closer institutional collaboration.

Modern customs systems play an important role in facilitating international trade while ensuring effective enforcement and secure border management.
