The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has intensified its accountability drive against government officers and employees, with 589 officials facing disciplinary action following decisions in hundreds of cases registered since October 2025.
The figures were presented during a high-level meeting chaired by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, where officials reviewed the progress of disciplinary and accountability proceedings across the province.
827 Cases Registered Since October 2025
According to the briefing, authorities have registered 827 cases involving government officers and employees since October 2025.
Of these, decisions have been reached in 629 cases, while 198 cases remain under process.
Among the cases that have been decided, 589 employees were penalised, while 40 were reportedly exonerated.
What Disciplinary Action Was Taken?
The accountability proceedings resulted in a range of penalties depending on the nature of the cases.
Reported actions included:
- 128 employees removed from service
- 18 employees dismissed
- 6 employees compulsorily retired
- 2 employees demoted
- 89 employees subjected to salary recoveries
- 39 employees had promotions withheld
- 10 employees suspended
- 155 employees issued warnings
- 52 employees reprimanded
- 16 employees charge-sheeted
- 14 employees subjected to salary cuts
One employee was also reported to have been arrested.
Unauthorized Absence Among Leading Offences
Officials identified unauthorised absence as the most common offence in the cases reviewed.
According to the briefing, 447 cases — around 54% of the total — involved unauthorised absence.
Other reported categories included:
- Negligence of duty — 120 cases
- Corruption and financial irregularities — 75 cases
- Incompetence — 75 cases
- Misconduct — 14 cases
- Poor supervision — 13 cases
- Violations of rules — 11 cases
Cases Spread Across Different Government Departments
The accountability proceedings involved employees from various parts of the provincial government.
District offices accounted for 305 cases, while attached departments and institutions accounted for 263 cases. Another 259 cases originated from the provincial secretariat and central departments.
The government also reviewed disciplinary action resulting from field inspections of healthcare facilities. Officials said 90 employees at District Headquarters Hospital Swabi and 61 officials and employees at District Headquarters Hospital Lakki Marwat were suspended following inspections.
KP Government Vows Continued Accountability
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the provincial government would continue pursuing accountability and would not compromise on transparency, merit and good governance.
The administration has described accountability as an important part of improving the performance of the provincial government and strengthening public-sector institutions.
With 198 cases still under process, further disciplinary decisions could follow as the remaining proceedings are completed.

The scale of the cases highlights the challenges faced by large public-sector systems, where issues such as absenteeism, negligence, financial irregularities and administrative performance can directly affect public service delivery.
The effectiveness of the accountability drive will ultimately depend not only on the number of employees penalised, but also on whether disciplinary measures lead to stronger institutional oversight, improved performance and greater transparency across government departments.
